U.S. Labor Secretary under Investigation

U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer is under investigation by the Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General following a complaint alleging misconduct and abuse of authority, in a story broken by The New York Post.

The complaint claims she pursued an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, hosted him at her Washington, D.C., apartment and hotel rooms during travel, and at times asked her security detail to stand down.

The complaint also alleges she drank alcohol in her office, directed staff to perform personal errands, and misused taxpayer-funded travel by labeling trips as official while spending time with family or friends. Senior aides, including her chief of staff and deputy chief of staff, are also reportedly under investigation.

The White House, the Department of Labor, and Chavez-DeRemer’s husband have denied the allegations, calling them baseless. The inspector general’s office declined to confirm or deny the investigation, and Chavez-DeRemer has not commented.

The above summarizes the Jan. 9, 2026 article in The New York Post, “Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer under investigation for ‘inappropriate’ relationship with employee” by Josh Christenson, which was soon checked and covered by other news services.

Christenson followed up with the Jan. 18, 2026 article, also in The New York Post, “IG probe uncovers Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s office booze ‘stash’ — and strip club visit with subordinates.”
