Could claims of “No Kings” demonstrations on all seven continents be true? Even on Antarctica? Apparently so. The Indivisible Team posted this viral photo from Deception Island, Antarctica, to prove it.
Millions of people took to the streets this weekend in what organizers say may be the largest single day of protests in U.S. history. More than 8 million people showed up at over 3,300 โNo Kingsโ events across the countryโand even in more than a dozen countries worldwide.
This was the third major protest organized by a coalition of groups like MoveOn, Indivisible, and the 50501 movement. And turnout is growingโthe last event in October drew around 7 million.
This time around, people were protesting a mix of issues: immigration raids, rising costs of living, threats to voting rights, and the ongoing war in Iran. One organizer summed it up bluntly: Americans are frustrated, and theyโre feeling it across the board.
In Minnesotaโs Twin Cities, about 200,000 people gathered near the state capitol. Bernie Sanders spoke about the influence of the ultra-wealthy, while Bruce Springsteen performed and led chants calling for changes to immigration enforcement.
In New York City, massive crowds marched through Times Square, joined by figures like Robert De Niro and Al Sharpton. Across the countryโfrom Chicago to Washington, D.C., to smaller cities in traditionally conservative statesโpeople showed up with similar messages: anti-war, pro-democracy, and focused on economic concerns.
The protests were largely peaceful, though there were some counterprotesters in places like Florida. The White House dismissed the events, calling them politically motivated.
Organizers say this wasnโt just a one-day actionโitโs part of a larger, ongoing movement. In their words, the protests may end, but the organizing doesnโt.
