Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek slammed the federal government’s immigration crackdown Saturday, saying it’s designed to scare and traumatize immigrant, refugee, and communities of color.
“The president and his agencies are intentionally working to scare, bully and traumatize our immigrant and refugee communities, and our Black, brown and Indigenous communities,” she said Jan. 24, as quoted by Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB).
She said Oregon will respond next session with new bills, including limits on masked law enforcement and allowing lawsuits against federal agents.
Kotek also addressed shooting of Alex Pretti by federal officers in Minnesota, warning that the growing federal presence in cities is escalating violence. She called for de-escalation and coordination with local governments.
The above summarizes OPB’s Jan. 24, 2026 article “Kotek denounces ICE operations in Oregon, says Legislature will respond“ by Joni Auden Land.
