Eugene-Springfield Builds Election Action Coalition

By Bobby Sample

Indivisible Eugene-Springfield (IES) has formed an Election Action Team with over 30 active members, and seeks an alliance with other organizations with the same goals for the upcoming midterm elections.

“We recognize that this is a particularly fraught election cycle,” said Rebecca McCroskey of the Election Action Team. “As the midterm elections approach, we will be meeting regularly as a team, and working with IES and our community coalition members to ensure that all eligible voters have a voice, and that their vote is protected and counted with accuracy and integrity.”

One of the agenda items of the team is to reach out to other organizations to create an Election Action Coalition.

The coalition, McCroskey says, is to serve as a communications tool, avoid duplication of effort and wasted resources, and keep abreast of the organizations’ respective activities and needs. “The most pressing need for this to be successful is for any interested organization to identify a ‘trusted liaison’ who is willing to share email contact, and attend if possible the first Zoom meeting to be held before the end of July. There is no obligation for joining, fees, or even continuing participation. We welcome COIN to this coalition.”

So far, their partnership includes local groups such as NAACP of Eugene-Springfield and the Democratic Party of Lane County, and national campaigns such as Center for Common Ground and Call 4 Change.

Indivisible Eugene-Springfield (IES) has over 700 members. Under its umbrella are several “action teams” for members to focus on particular issues. See their Action Teams page for general information, as well as the Join an Action Team form (which includes the Election Action Team).
