With National Dog Day coming Aug. 26, several communities in the Oregon Coast Indivisible Alliance (OCIA) were inspired to plan Dogs for Democracy parades and events this month.
Astoria
Dogs for Democracy: A Celebration of Democracy and a No Kings Protest
WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 22, 12:00-1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Garden of Surging Waves, 1095 Duane St, Astoria OR 97103
As described the Indivisible North Coast Oregon site:
Parade starts at the Garden of Surging Waves and ends on Marine Drive at 16th St.
Join us with your well-behaved dog on a 6-ft or less leash. No dog? Join us.
We’ll begin promptly at noon, so get there a bit early. You can also choose to gp straight to Marine Drive from 16th and eastward.
We encourage you to costume your dog for the occasion.
Together we can fetch a better America!

Reedsport
Reedsport Dog Parade

Join us for this fun event to benefit the Reedsport K9 Shelter. Featuring a dog parade starting and ending at Champion Dog Park in Reedsport and a raffle with donations from local businesses.

Dogs for Democracy Parade and Picnic

Some details from the flier distributed by Tillamook Coast Action Indivisible:
- Does your dog companion love a picnic and parade? Bring them for the fun!
- Top Dog contest with prize. Voted by altendees.
- A family-friendly event .
- All dogs must be leashed and led by those over 12 years old.
- BYO picnic and blanket.
- Dress yourself and your dog(s) in red white and blue.
- Bring a sign, “Dogs for Democracy”, “Paws for Peace”, “Canines for the Constitution”, “Pawed Proletariat”, etc …
- Items available for a donation: “Dogs for Democracy” buttons, patriotic bandannas, fun poop bags, dog photo booth, Picnic & Parade Calendars (order at event).
- After the picnic, we’ll parade from Hoquarton Trail, around the Farmer’s Market, then return via Pacific Ave.
