Want a hygge-style beverage the next time a friend stops by? This quick and easy recipe for a creamy, non-dairy mocha latte is chock full of goodness, and it contains fewer calories and ingredients than are found in most coffee shop beverages.
The Wellness Argument
Raw cacao is a nutrient-dense superfood packed with antioxidants, magnesium, iron, and theobromine, which are said to collectively improve heart health, boost brain function, and enhance mood. It is also reported to promote vasodilation to lower blood pressure, acts as a prebiotic for gut health, and reduces inflammation.
Coconut cream is rich, plant-based nutrition, as a dairy-free alternative to heavy cream. It is said to aid in nutrient absorption. It contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) for quick energy, promotes heart health by boosting HDL cholesterol, and it provides essential potassium. It also hydrates skin and nourishes hair.
The Recipe
Ingredients for two cups:
- 1 cup brewed coffee
- 1 cup canned coconut cream (other non-dairy creams work, too; however, almond milk does not have enough fat to get the best results)
- 1 tbs good quality raw cacao powder
- 1-2 tsp honey or maple syrup (or to taste)
- Splash of real vanilla
Simply run the ingredients in a blender, or use a frother. Whirl it for a couple of minutes. Pour and enjoy!
